About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role:
The level of Explosive Ordnance contamination within Ukraine is unprecedented and there is real push from the Government of Ukraine for clearance activities to commence in earnest. This includes the use of mechanical assets, and MAG Ukraine have recently procured two MineWolf 240s, with plans to extend the mechanical fleet with both purposely designed and manufactured demining machines but also adapted construction/heavy plant machines in the near future. For these reasons you will be responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing all mechanical assets in MAG’s Ukraine programme as required. You will also be responsible for the development of maintenance schedules in keeping with MAG’s operational requirements and ensure/oversee their implementation. You will also assist in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating training programmes on the use of mechanical assets, including day-to-day training, and monitoring of staff in conducting repair and maintenance of machinery.
About you:
You will have experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing multiple mechanical assets across different locations, especially MineWolf assets. You’ll have experience of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to coordinate and prioritise in order to meet deadlines. You will need fluent English language skills and be able to work in a challenging and politically sensitive environment.
About the Ukraine programme:
Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missile, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and now employs over 100 staff in our Ukraine programme, in a range of operational and support/administrative activities with further scale-up expected before the end of 2023. The programme has representation in Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Kropyvnytskyi, and will continue to expand in 2024 into new areas.
