About MAG:
MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.**
About the Sri Lanka programme:
MAG’s Sri Lanka programme addresses the problems faced by mine-affected communities by providing efficient, effective and safe clearance of land. The Sri Lankan civil war ended in 2009, but landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) continue to threaten communities in northern and eastern districts. MAG uses a mixture of manual and mechanical teams to maximise the efficiency of the land release process in country. By making land safe and returning it to the affected communities, MAG is helping people in Sri Lanka to rebuild their lives, livelihoods and futures following the civil war. MAG Sri Lanka extended its programme activities by adding WAM activities to the programme in 2019.
