The starting salary package for this position is **£42,904 GBP / approx. $56,209 USD including all allowances.
About MAG:
MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.
About the Iraq programme:
Following decades of conflict, Iraq is heavily contaminated with landmines and other unexploded ordnance (UXO) and the ongoing regional crisis has added to the scale of this problem. MAG has been working in Iraq since 1992 and after expansion into new areas over the last 4 years; we currently have over 1100 national staff and more than 100 teams operating in 6 areas in northern Iraq. By clearing hazardous areas, MAG has enabled new schools, roads and hospitals to be built, opened up vital trade routes and allowed communities to use their farming land in safety, giving them greater food security and an escape from poverty. Our work over the last 4 years in particular, has supported the safe expansion or establishment of camps for displaced people and clearance of areas of return, as well as delivering life-saving risk education for those who have fled the violence and are now seeking to return.
About the role:
MAG is seeking a Country Security Manager (CSM) to manage the daily security requirement of the programme including work sites, bases, operational areas and internal and external guard force. The CSM will monitor and assess security conditions, and advise the Senior Management Team (SMT) as appropriate. The post holder will also be responsible for developing and delivering safety and security training as well as mentoring and developing the national Health, Safety and Security Manager. This is a great opportunity to use your extensive technical knowledge and experience in security management and analysis to support an organisation working hard to improve the lives of communities in challenging environments.
This role will be based in Erbil and Baghdad with frequent travels to various areas within the country.
About you:
The successful candidate will have considerable experience of practical security planning and implementation, preferably gained in the context of relief operations in insecure areas. The ability to analyse rapidly changing security environments, and react appropriately is also essential. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and liaison skills with an awareness of diplomacy and tact. Accredited training qualifications and HSE and security qualifications are highly desirable as is previous experience of working in an INGO. Areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments. Verbal and written English is essential for this role, with Arabic language skills being beneficial.
As part of MAG's commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.
