About MAG in Chad:
Over 30 years of civil conflict - including Libyan invasion - have resulted in extensive landmine/UXO contamination and large-scale population displacement in Chad. In 1997, the Chadian authorities signed and ratified the Ottawa Treaty and established the High Commission for National Demining to remove all mines and is now aiming to destroy all anti-personnel mines in areas under its jurisdiction no later than 1 January 2020.
MAG has worked in Chad since 2004 and has recently started a four year humanitarian mine action consortium project funded by the European Union in the Lake and Tibesti Regions. Since 2014 MAG has also been implementing Arms Management and Destruction projects across the country, working closely with the Chadian authorities to reduce the risks and impacts of unplanned explosions and reduce the danger of weapons proliferation for civilian populations.
About the role:
As the senior technical representative in country, the Technical Operations Manager role is responsible for leading and safely managing all mine clearance and EOD operations, as well as leading teams of national and international staff. To do this you will need to hold a recognisable EOD qualification and have extensive experience of planning and implementing efficient clearance operations in challenging environments.
Working closely with and reporting to the Country Director, you will provide high quality technical input into proposals and reports, liaise with donors, and government agencies. As a member of the programme’s Senior Management Team, you will need to demonstrate considerable experience of working strategically and ensuring the quality and efficiency of MAG’s clearance work.
About you:
You will have excellent people and project management skills with the ability to coordinate, design, manage and report on activities simultaneously. Previous experience of working in a senior technical position within a similar organisation is essential. This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position that will be suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and flexible manager. A patient, tactful and diplomatic approach will be required in the challenging environments MAG works in.
Fluent written and spoken French Language skills are essential, with English language skills desirable.
