About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the South Sudan programme:

South Sudan is one of the youngest, poorest and least developed countries world-wide. The 2013 outbreak of hostilities has led to thousands of people being killed or wounded, and hundreds of thousands of people being displaced by the violence. MAG has been working in South Sudan since 2004, to clear landmines/unexploded ordnance and deliver mine risk education to at-risk populations. We are seeking to recruit a Technical Operations Manager to lead technical operations in South Sudan. This is a permanent position, ideally starting in January 2016.

About the role:

As the senior technical representative in country, you will be responsible for planning, leading and safely managing humanitarian and commercial mine clearance and EOD operations. You will hold a recognisable EOD qualification and have extensive experience of implementing efficient clearance operations in challenging environments. Working closely with and reporting to the Country Director, you will be accountable for scaling-up the operation, providing high quality technical input into proposals, ensuring smooth operations and generating quality data for reports. You will be the technical lead with donors and government agencies. As a member of the Programme Senior Management Team you will demonstrate your experience of working strategically and ensuring efficient high output clearance work. You will manage multiple Multi-Task Teams of national and international staff, ensuring they plan for, organise and keep teams well-motivated and performing, working with the framework of MAG’s vision and values.

About you:

You will have excellent people and project management skills with the ability to coordinate, design, manage and report on activities simultaneously. Previous experience of working in a senior technical position within a similar organisation is essential. This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position that will be suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and flexible manager. You will need previous experience of managing all phases of large scale technical operations. Previous experience of being responsible for UNOPS programming in a challenging political, logistical and security environment would also be highly advantageous.
